Dana Robinson is an investor, entrepreneur and author of books that help employees become entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs become operators. Dana has spent the past 15 years passing along his knowledge as a law professor and Linkedin Learning educator. Dana's courses are accessible through Linkedin Learning (including free at most public libraries) and Audible. His books are offered as affordably as possible as part of his mission to return what he has learned to those who have more ambition than money. Dana’s own entrepreneurial ventures began when he was a kid, selling the family chicken eggs to neighbors, mowing lawns and making hair-clips he sold to girls in middle school. He launched his first real business at 19, sold that four years later then started another. Since then he’s owned and co-owned over a dozen ventures: from shoes to audiobooks; shelving to wine barrels; software to real estate. He currently is a managing partner with Verde Equity Partners, a lower middle market fund with a focus on blue-collar service businesses. Dana didn’t cash out with millions, win the lottery or inherit a dime. He’s not a business guru, or a tech billionaire. He’s just an average middle-class guy who hustled and reinvented what it means to be successful through counterintuitive ideas, hacks, and opting out of the mainstream approach to life, money and business. Dana co-hosts the Exit Plan podcast (fka the Opt Out Life), a podcast where he interviews entrepreneurs, business operators, private equity professionals and guests who help optimize businesses for an eventual transaction. Dana was a founding partner at Techlaw LLP, and US IP Attorneys, where he worked with startups and business in the field of intellectual property and corporate law. He spent a decade as adjunct professor at University of San Diego School of Law where he co-directed the Intellectual property law clinic, and later ran the trademark law clinic at California Western Law School where he teaches trademark law. Dana graduated with a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from University of San Diego School of Law in 1999, and earned his M.A. from Azusa Pacific University in 1996. Dana is a member of the California and Nevada Bars, and a California licensed real estate broker. He held his FINRA Series 63 & 79 from 2010-2016. His board participation includes for-profit and non-profit roles from 2004-2010, and a member of the ICANN Implementation Advisory Group for the Trademark Clearinghouse (2011-2012).
