Dan Gleason grew up in a former coal mining town in Iowa, before earning a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the famous University of Iowa Writers Workshop. Since leaving college, Gleason has regularly published fiction and non-fiction in national publications. Among several writing awards is an Indigent Defense Journalism award for a story helping free an innocent man from death row. He also writes humor, and for several years taught humor writing classes for the Gotham Writer's Workshop in New York. Gleason garners much material from personal experience, once riding in a freight car to Britt, Iowa, for an assigned piece about The National Hobo Festival. His first sold book was "The Great, the Grand & the Also-Ran," a well-received Random House book about life on the PGA Tour. He later ghosted a true-crime, best-selling paperback about bank robber "Fast Eddie" Watkins. For "Life Without,” Gleason spent several hundred hours interviewing his wrongfully-conviction co-author, Sandy Shaw. He teaches graduate creative writing at a major university. His recently completed novel, "The Highwayman," pairs a con man with a former beauty queen in a grift to take down a crooked banker in small town Iowa.
