Dan Ellens is an outdoor enthusiast and conservation-minded storyteller who spends much of each year at Winterfeld Pines Nature Sanctuary in Clare County, Michigan. There, he lives off-grid in an electricity-free treehouse lit by oil lamps, with hand-pump water and woodstove heat, immersed in the forests that inspire his fiction. After a full career in industry and international business, Dan now focuses on land restoration, self-reliant living, and outward-bound experiences that reconnect people with the natural world. He is an accomplished woodworker and carpenter, a hobby artist, and a passionate rescuer of discarded fine art, restoring pieces and placing them in new homes. He also enjoys experimenting with electricity-free cooking and baking.
