Damon Stone is a vampire, born in 1847 in Chislehurst, England. After a failed career as a composer in Victorian England - in which critics described his music as "a blight upon the senses and an affront to moral sensibility" - Damon moped for a century and a half before embarking on a writing career that has, on the other hand, been critically acclaimed. His fascination with the oddness of consciousness - the thing somehow most familiar and most alien to us - began when he died in the year 2017 under mysterious circumstances. He was reborn in the year 2024. This kind of death-and-resurrection is rare, but not unheard of among Damon's race of immortals, and is considered a kind of spiritual honor in his ancient culture. Damon leads a quiet, reclusive life, devoted to his art. He prefers solitude, but hopes to be adopted by a cat someday.
