An artist and storyteller who passionately explores the human experience, Cory Richards began working for National Geographic shooting adventure features in the most remote corners of the globe. As a professional climber, he spent his early career on high-risk expeditions that tested his unique ability to capture stories that were largely out of reach to others. However, the path to these places, and the hidden journey through his career, was often fraught. The Color of Everything is a deep is an intimate exploration into the mind, the forces that drive us, and how mental health impacts not only the individual, but the world at large. A high school dropout to documenting both poles to war zones, to the summit of Everest without oxygen, the presentation profiles not only his career, but a vulnerable, and often playful and humorous look into the life behind it. His journey with bipolar disorder, addiction, heartbreak, healing, and great hope is a timely celebration of the tempests of a brain on fire and how our greatest hurdles, when seen through a different lens, can become our greatest strengths. Spotlighting jaw-dropping landscapes, disappearing ways of life, the intersection of humans and animals, as well as personal and scientific insights into psychology, The Color of Everything invites us to consider the nature of time, the stories we tell, and ultimately offers a hopeful reframing of what it means to be human. Cory Richards is an internationally renowned photographer, filmmaker, and author of the forthcoming memoir The Color of Everything (Random House July 2024) as well as Bi-Polar, a collection of his photography career (Ten Speed Press, October 2024) . He is the first and only American to climb one of the world’s 8000m peaks in winter. His documentation of the climb and aftermath of the experience was made into the award-winning documentary COLD and appeared on the cover of the 125th anniversary issue of National Geographic. Richards is a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, Photographer Fellow, and a two-time recipient of an Explorers Grant. He has photographed twelve feature assignments for the magazine. He has an active speaking career, in which he speaks about conservation, the future of psychology and mental health, leadership, the tenuous line of risk and reward, and vulnerability.
