I was always a bookworm as a child, but came to writing relatively late - not until I was in my thirties, with young children, did I even begin to think I could create stories as well as reading them. At that time I was an army wife, and escaping to other worlds through writing was a welcome distraction from having a husband away in a war zone. I was born in Devon, but my childhood was also spent in Mauritius and Surrey. A love of travel, and marriage to a soldier, gave me an itinerant adulthood. I have lived and worked in South Africa, Nepal, Germany and Northern Ireland, as well as various parts of England. I have a degree in Law, diplomas in journalism, art, and teaching English (ESOL), as well as an MA in Creative Writing - before I became an author I had what I think you'd call a 'portfolio career', picking up jobs in journalism, PR and English tuition wherever my husband's job happened to be at the time. As my husband has left the military, world travels are on hold for the time being, and I write my books looking out of the bay window at my desk in our family home in Nottingham.
