Chris Rhyss Edwards is an accomplished author, researcher, and technology innovator whose life journey defies convention. A former Australian Army Combat Engineer and peacekeeper, Chris transitioned from military service to a successful media career, earning two global innovation awards and recognition as a finalist in the Prime Minister’s Veteran Entrepreneur of the Year awards for his work in healthtech. He is the author of Good Reasons to Kill and The Woke Paradox—both tackling complex themes of resilience, morality, identity, and the human condition. His 2010 sabbatical project explored one of life’s most confronting questions—do we ever have a good reason to kill?—culminating in Good Reasons to Kill, a groundbreaking work that delves into the lives of those forced to make the ultimate moral decision. Chris holds postgraduate qualifications in journalism and creative writing from Queensland University of Technology and is currently completing a PhD in Science, specialising in Human-Computer Interaction. His research sits at the intersection of ethics, technology, and mental health, with a focus on how generative AI and voice-enabled conversational agents can serve as emotional support tools for healthcare and frontline workers. His work is helping shape the next generation of human-centred digital wellbeing tools. A passionate advocate for mental health, emotional literacy, and ethical tech design, Chris is also a TEDx speaker (“The Uncomfortable Truth Between Right & Wrong”) and a regular keynote presenter across APAC, the UK, and the USA. He is known for his ability to distill complex, often uncomfortable issues into accessible and thought-provoking dialogue. When not writing, researching, or speaking, Chris runs marathons, doesn’t sleep nearly enough, and has an enduring love for dogs.
