Chiyoko Tahara is a Japanese author, writer, and founder of Sparkling Oak Publishing. Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, she has lived in the United States for more than three decades.

Her books span fiction, personal essays, practical nonfiction, and multilingual picture books. Much of her writing grows from her own experiences—living between Japanese and American cultures, raising a family, pursuing creative work, traveling between the two countries, and learning from the people and experiences she encounters along the way.

Her Japanese novels explore courage, connection, healing, and personal growth. Her nonfiction includes personal essays, practical guides, and books drawn from lessons she has learned firsthand. She also creates picture books for young children, including multilingual and bilingual editions designed to make language learning approachable and fun.

Chiyoko also contributes regular columns to Japanese publications, including a quilting magazine and a professional bakery trade magazine.

Her English-language children’s books are also published under the pen name Cindy K.

Whether she is writing fiction, sharing something she has learned, or passing along practical advice, her work is rooted in one simple idea: to turn real experiences into something useful, encouraging, or meaningful for someone else.
