Catherine Kirwan grew up on a farm in the parish of Fews, County Waterford. She studied law at UCC and lives in Cork where she works as a solicitor. 'A Lesson in Malice' is Catherine's third and most recent book. 'Cruel Deeds', an Irish Times bestseller, is her second. 'Darkest Truth', also an Irish Times bestseller, is her first. 'Dark academia meets locked-room mystery in . . . A LESSON IN MALICE. A cast of vivid characters, a Cork city that’s utterly alive on the page - Kirwan’s descriptions are sublime - and Finn’s methodical (if sometimes self-destructive) methods make for a gripping page-turner - and the solution will make you gasp.' (Catherine Ryan Howard) 'Clever, sharp and addictive, I couldn’t put it down until I had all the answers. The twin stars – Finn Fitzpatrick and Cork city – are at their shining best in A Lesson in Malice. A triumph.' (Andrea Mara) 'Deftly plotted in short snappy chapters, this is a perfect Agatha Christie 'locked room whodunnit murder-mystery'. (Sunday Independent) 'Immensely enjoyable . . . the university world is amusingly and persuasively depicted.' (Irish Times) 'I love Finn Fitzpatrick and A Lesson in Malice does not disappoint. It has Agatha Christie vibes with the added atmosphere and intrigue of the murder occurring in a university. A great read.' (Patricia Gibney) ‘Agatha Christie meets John Grisham in the ancient halls of academia - dark, atmospheric and intricately plotted, a Lesson in Malice is a lesson in suspense that will grip you to the very last page.’ (Sam Blake) 'A lively and exhilarating read...and above all, in Finn, a winning and vital lead character; her vibrant energy and good humour animates and drives the action at breakneck pace. Hugely enjoyable.' (Irish Times review of 'Cruel Deeds') 'A captivating read’, 'an immersive tale’, ‘suspenseful’, ‘completely unexpected conclusion’, ‘relatable characters’. (Sunday Independent review of 'Cruel Deeds') 'Cruel Deeds has echoes of 'The Firm' but for the millennial generation.' (Mail on Sunday Ireland 'Hot List') 'Confirms Catherine Kirwan as a major new talent', 'deviously plotted mystery', 'vivid characters', 'distinctive dialogue'. (Irish Independent review of 'Cruel Deeds') 'Highly recommended.' (The Gloss Magazine) 'Fast paced...Kirwan brilliantly handles — without bewildering or blinding us — the intricacies of ...financial impropriety, ... jealousy, adultery, and blackmail.' (Irish Examiner review of 'Cruel Deeds') 'Money and greed, office gossip and secret affairs; Cruel Deeds is twisty and pacy, set against a wonderfully evocative Cork backdrop. I loved Cruel Deeds and can't wait to see what's next for Finn Fitzpatrick.' (Andrea Mara, author of Sunday Times bestseller 'All Her Fault') 'With intricate plotting, relatable characters, and a thrilling story, Cruel Deeds has all the ingredients needed for a page turning read...this book does not disappoint. I highly recommend Cruel Deeds.' (Patricia Gibney, author of the bestselling Lottie Parker series) 'The challenge of being a voracious reader of crime fiction is finding something that absolutely sits inside the genre but also offers something new. Enter, lawyer Finn Fitzpatrick. [Cruel Deeds] is a propulsive mystery that feels both fresh and assured. I especially loved the behind the scenes detail of running a legal practice - Catherine is a solicitor, so she knows her stuff - and Cork City being a character all of its own.’ (Catherine Ryan Howard, Edgar and CWA Dagger nominee, number one bestselling author of '56 Days' and ‘The Nothing Man’) 'Chock full of secrets and with a compelling plot, Cruel Deeds will keep you glued to the pages!' (Lesley Kara, author of Sunday Times bestseller 'The Rumour') 'Pacy, twisty and ingeniously plotted – Cruel Deeds is a real page-turner.’ (TM Logan, author of 'The Holiday' and 'Trust Me') 'Finn Fitzpatrick makes for a great protagonist. Pacy, gripping and atmospheric, with a brilliant Cork setting; Cruel Deeds is a cracking read!' (Andrea Carter, author of the Inishowen Mysteries) 'A clever twisty tale that feels completely authentic; Catherine Kirwan is onto another winner with Cruel Deeds. I loved it.' (Jane Casey, multi-award-winning author of the highly-acclaimed Maeve Kerrigan series and 'The Killing Kind') 'A pacy tale that sweeps the reader along through the murky waters of the legal world.' (Siobhan MacDonald, author of 'The Bride Collector' and 'Guilty') 'A taut, gripping, thriller, Cruel Deeds will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages.' (Tadhg Coakley, author of 'Whatever It Takes' and 'The First Sunday in September') 'Atmospheric and intriguing with a brilliantly relatable heroine and an explosive, gripping conclusion, nothing in Cruel Deeds is quite as it seems.' (Sam Blake, number one bestselling author of 'The Dark Room' and 'Remember My Name') 'Darkest Truth has an unforgettable heroine, a well plotted story and very moving honesty at its heart. Timely and highly evocative of its setting, it's a strikingly good debut. I can't wait to read more from Catherine Kirwan.' (Jane Casey, multi-award-winning author of the highly-acclaimed Maeve Kerrigan series and 'The Killing Kind') ‘A great female protagonist, a timely plot and the promise of much more to come from this debut author.’ (Catherine Ryan Howard, Edgar and CWA Dagger nominee, number one bestselling author of '56 Days' and ‘The Nothing Man’) 'This is a wonderfully assured debut...Kirwan delivers her cracking tale in her own distinctive voice. In Finn Fitzpatrick, she has created an immensely likeable, feisty and individual character, and the supporting cast in this intriguing mystery are equally well drawn.' (Irish Independent) 'The story is told at a propulsive rate, the legal details are persuasive and the dialogue is excellent.'
