Dr. Carter Check is a leader in Veteran moral injury care, a suicide prevention strategist, and founder of HunTherapy, a nonprofit using outdoor experiences to support Veterans and first responders through trauma and grief. A former U.S. Army Cavalry Scout with over a decade of chaplaincy experience, he co-developed the VA’s REAL and UMI programs to address moral pain and trauma-related loss. His “upstream moral care” approach emphasizes prevention through moral reconnection, ritual, storytelling, and nature-based healing. Twice named Federal Employee of the Year by the Oklahoma Federal Executive Board, he is also the author of Healing in the Wild, a blend of memoir and recovery guide.
