I was raised in Ethiopia. I returned to the US for college, but didn't find a career passion until I returned to Ethiopia to teach English there with my family in my 40s. After 12 years working overseas in education, peace and women's development projects, I have been been promoting and writing in that intersection between my heritage as an American and my experiences connecting with people and cultures halfway around the world. My husband Mark died of cancer in 2013. I took a couple of years to find my balance again, and then started a non-profit to bring solar, safe water and women's development to my home area in a remote district of SW Ethiopia.
