Dr. Bruce W. Strouble Jr. is an environmental justice activist and anti -racism practitioner raised in Altadena, California, where he first witnessed the impact of racial inequality and pollution on Black Americans. He later moved to Tallahassee, Florida, to attend Florida A&M University. After earning his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral Degrees, he began his career as a professor while also taking on the challenge of designing programs to help vulnerable communities adapt to a warming planet. Throughout his career, Dr. Strouble has led climate-resilience efforts at Groundwork USA and developed community programs for the City of Tallahassee and Florida A&M University’s Sustainability Institute. He has experimented with innovative approaches to support neighborhoods facing historical divestment and climate challenges. Along the way, Dr. Strouble has directed multi-million-dollar revitalization efforts in partnership with local leaders across the country, rebuilding urban neighborhoods and strengthening community-based leadership. While serving on Leon County’s Affordable Housing Advisory Council and the City of Tallahassee’s Charter Review Committee, Dr. Strouble discovered that fair representation can transform entire neighborhoods from within. Motivated by that insight, he continues bridging community activism and policy as a member of the Moving Forward Network Advisory Council and the Capital City Chamber of Commerce. As a Senior Fellow with the Environmental Leadership Program and the Institute for the Polarities of Democracy, he builds alliances that highlight the real power of local voices and strategic leadership. Today, as Executive Director of Citizens for a Sustainable Future Inc. and President of ReThink Energy Florida, he works closely with community members to create anti-racist climate solutions that benefit underserved families and advance democracy and environmental justice. In his book, By Any Dreams Necessary, Dr. Strouble shares how these experiences shaped his belief that African American communities can overcome historical barriers through strategic action, solidarity, and the courage to dream for a sustainable future.
