Brian Young grew up in Utah hiking, camping, and searching the High Uintas—the same mountains
that provide the dramatic backdrop for The Sacred Vein. Those formative years exploring wilderness
trails and hearing legends of lost Spanish gold planted the seeds for his debut novel.
Young now lives in Chicago, where he works as a Software Engineering Leader by day and pursues
his passion for writing in his spare time. The Sacred Vein represents the culmination of years of
research into the real history of the Lost Rhoades Mine, combined with his deep love for the Utah
landscape and its indigenous heritage.
"The Uinta Mountains shaped who I am," Young says. "Writing this book was a
way of honoring that landscape and the stories it holds—both the historical record
and the legends that have grown around it. I wanted to create something that felt
true to the place, even as it explored questions that feel urgent today: Who owns
the past? What do we owe to the cultures whose heritage we study? And what
really matters when we strip away the glitter of gold?"
