Brian Braudis has a congenital draw to Nature. His first steps were chasing birds and, by age seven, trailing them to hidden nests, studying biology—from hatchling to fledge. He spent countless hours immersed with insects in jars, chipmunks in box traps, chub minnows in streams, snakes, toads, and darting salamanders under logs. At a Cub Scout outing, he saw his first fly fisher. Mesmerized by the mastery and grace of each cast, he knew instantly: someday, he would be there. A sudden tragedy altered his course. When his father died of a heart attack at fifty-three, Brian set aside boyhood dreams of fly-fishing and shifted to survival. Through a series of steps, missteps, serendipity and good fortune, Brian earned a biology degree and was hired as a wildlife biologist and later served in a leadership role with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Brian realized that to learn the craft of fly-fishing, what he needed more than anything was longevity. After retirement, fly-fishing with vigor, avoiding premature aging, building health, and longevity became Brian’s purpose. The Ageless Angler came about through a two-stage journey. First, Brian immersed himself in understanding the processes of aging and the challenges posed by modern life. Then, through science and experimentation, he discovered ways to stimulate the body—to reawaken biology that had grown lazy and complacent—and push it to grow, adapt, and thrive. The good news is that the fraction of time and effort invested in this journey can return a lifetime of strength and vitality.
