Brett Bacon is a bestselling author whose work bridges fiction and nonfiction with an uncommon range—from dark, atmospheric horror to inspiring guides on business, law, and personal growth. Raised in a small town in northern New England, Brett grew up surrounded by books, wild landscapes, and long winters that encouraged imagination. From an early age, he was drawn to tales that lived in the shadowy space between the ordinary and the extraordinary. Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes and Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House were early influences that shaped his love of psychological horror and human mystery. Before turning to writing full-time, Brett built successful careers as a U.S. Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer, practicing attorney, and entrepreneur. Each career taught him something about courage, morality, and the unseen forces—social, emotional, and spiritual—that shape our choices. Those lessons now inform his fiction: complex characters tested under pressure, settings that feel alive, and themes that reveal the hidden truths of human nature. The Knight at the Top of the Stairs is his debut horror novel and the first in his planned collection of atmospheric, psychologically charged fiction. Inspired by a childhood memory of a shadow that resembled a medieval knight, the novel explores fear, innocence, and imagination in a turbulent 1968 New England town. It reflects both the uncertainty of that era and the timeless struggle to distinguish what’s real from what we fear might be. In addition to horror and literary fiction, Brett writes thrillers, romantic comedies, and children’s picture books under B. E. Bacon. His nonfiction works distill decades of experience in leadership, sales, and law into clear, practical insights for readers seeking success in life and work. When he’s not writing, Brett enjoys photography, graphic design, and fly fishing in New Hampshire, where he lives with his family.
