While it was my own diagnosis at the Mayo Clinic that led to my work in behavioral medicine and to the design of the program, it was the feedback I received that led to the book itself. While recent findings in multiple disciplines are truly sensational–and I wanted that science to come alive–it’s the stories of the individuals who integrated and mobilized these findings, who put the research into play for remarkable results, that show us what to make of it. Without these amazing men and women there wouldn’t be a book. To me, they are the real heros of the book and it’s because of them I wanted to write it.
