Bill Hatcher has investigated sacred gendered spaces of the Haya in Tanzania and continues to research the intersections of misogyny, racism, religion, animal cruelty, meat-eating, and environmental degradation worldwide. Professor of geography and anthropology since 1994, Bill lives in southern Colorado with his wife, Kim. Bill is the author of the following books: The Red Planet: Gendered Landscapes and Violent Inequalities (2024) This nonfiction book explores the origins, evolution, and likely demise of hyper-masculinity, a global paradigm that has resulted in everything from gender and sexual discrimination to racism, warfare, and animal cruelty. The book also presents current research that shows how our original biological and social programming is nonviolent. So how did we get here, and what’s next? Find out in this fresh, avant-garde nonfiction, and learn how our intrinsically feminine predilection for peace may yet save us. Principles of Flight: Flying Bush Planes Through a World of War, Sexism, and Meat (2018) This grand adventure is filled with spectacular scenes of flights over the African savanna and Alaskan glaciers. Its central focus is a psychosocial inquiry into the hyper-masculine paradigm. The 9/11 attacks and the wars that follow provide poignant context. (Judged a Finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards in Social and Political Change.) The Marble Room: How I Lost God and Found Myself in Africa (2012) As a Peace Corps teacher at an all-girls' boarding school in Tanzania, Bill was expected to broaden his students' horizons, but instead it was his own worldview that was challenged. This memoir is both a tale of adventure and self-discovery―and proof that even the most naïve and insular American can achieve a spiritual awakening.
