Bert Shergold was born in Aquae Sulis, Somerset’s Roman city. He grew up in Clapton Bottom, where he rarely attended St Botolph’s School, preferring instead to escape to the meadows of Clackers Book.

At eighteen, armed with nothing but a battered suitcase and a dream, Bert fled Wiltshire aboard an InterCity express from Chippenham station to the big city, and didn’t look back until Wiltshire was a rumour.

These days, Bert calls Londinium home, where he shares his house with Tipple, his judgmental tabby, and Jon, his ridiculously adorable husband.

Clapton Bottom is his first novel — revenge, of sorts, on the Wiltshire village that raised him.
