Bella Prudencio started writing at twelve, in Campos dos Goytacazes, in the north of Rio de Janeiro state, and published her first novel at eighteen on her own, with no publisher behind her. That was Sebastian, which found its way onto Amazon's bestseller lists and began a career she has never paused since.

It was followed by 505: Um Amor que Vibra, which passed two million reads online before it ever existed on paper, and by Clube dos Suicidas, launched at the Rio Book Biennial and sold out within its first week, and by Camille & Camila, which sold out at the São Paulo Book Biennial. The list went on with O Pecador, A Cartomante, Agent Provocateur: Destruindo Hollywood and Stalker: Ato I, and four of those novels were recorded as audiobooks by the Danish publisher Saga Egmont, which made her one of the first Brazilian authors with narrated fiction available on Spotify.

What she writes always has something to do with intense love, desire, family and loss, and above all with women trying to exist fully in worlds that keep asking them to take up less room, which is why none of her heroines are especially easy to love, and why she has no intention of fixing that.

She holds a degree in psychology and also studied Portuguese literature, and she has Machado de Assis tattooed on her right arm, which answers most of what anyone might want to know about her. Her novels are written in Brazilian Portuguese, she writes because she loves it rather than to get it right, and @escritoraemchamas is where she turns up outside the books.
