Barrett Martin is a Grammy-winning producer, percussionist, and writer who has been playing music professionally for almost 40 years. His work can be heard on over 200 albums and film soundtracks worldwide by artists such as R.E.M., Mad Season, Screaming Trees, Queens Of The Stone Age, Tuatara, Stone Temple Pilots, blues legend Cedell Davis, and Brazilian superstar Nando Reis. Barrett also holds a master's degree in ethnomusicology and linguistics and his work in that field has taken him across 6 continents including places like the Alaskan Arctic, the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, Brazil, Cuba, West Africa, and the Palestinian West Bank. To date, he has received three Latin Grammy nominations for his musical production work, winning one Latin Grammy. Barrett has also guest lectured at several universities across the United States, and has written essays for The Huffington Post and Riot Material Magazine. In 2014 he was awarded the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thompson Award for excellence in writing. His first book, “The Singing Earth,” encompasses his musical work on six continents and was released in 2017. His second book, “The Way Of The Zen Cowboy,” is a series of short stories about growing up in the Pacific Northwest and was released in 2019. His third book, “Stillpoint,” is a series of meditations on nature and was released in 2021. His fourth and best-selling book, "The Greatest Band That Ever Wasn't," is his memoir on the rock band, Screaming Trees. His solo band, The Barrett Martin Group, has released 11 studio albums to date.
