For years my work in leadership development was a professional love affair. I treasured coaching smart, successful individuals to higher levels of performance, speaking to organizations and facilitating groups. Today my professional purpose is to help individuals uncover late-in-life ambition for living, thrive, stay true to oneself and enjoy a vibrant last third of life.

Why the change in focus?

After sailing 6 months and over 2000 miles with my daughter on a 42-foot sailboat named Revival, I was proud never to be lost at sea. Instead, I got lost on land.

Turning 65 facing retirement turned out to be the hardest transition in my lifetime. And I have advanced degrees in human behavior!

It was a staggering surprise.

I was never depressed but I was majorly confused about life going forward. Anyone who ends up asking "What's Next?" at 65 is already in trouble. Boomers who face a three-to-five-year transition after retirement often underestimate the bronco-bucking ahead. I certainly did.

After five years of study and research, including interviews with over 160 individuals (many with leaders I coached), I proudly share a fresh, innovative approach to navigating life after retirement. The 60-Something Crisis: How to Live an Extraordinary Life in Retirement introduces The Four Portals, a model grounded in research on high performance, productive longevity, adult development and well-being, and guides individuals forward in engaging, meaningful ways with measurable results.


My previous book written with my daughter, Elizabeth, an award-winning journalist, THE TRANSPARENCY EDGE: How Credibility Can Make or Break You in Business (McGraw-Hill), chosen by Fast Company magazine as their “Book of the Month," continues to develop trust in leaders. The book has been among Bookscan’s list of 50 best-selling new business books in America. It hit #7 on Barnes & Noble’s list of bestselling business ethics books.


Today I design a life where I live and work in places I love, tap dance in a group 20 years younger, sport a smile often as possible and am a cracker-jack grandmother.
