About Antim Straus, Author ON WRITING When I began writing full-time in 2016, I had no idea that crafting dialogue would become one of my greatest joys. I found myself immersed in the rhythm of conversations—choosing the right words to push the story forward, layering in gestures and expressions that feel authentic, and giving each character a voice as distinct as their actions. It’s not just what they say, but how they say it. Ironically, I once believed dialogue slowed a story down. That changed when I read David Baldacci’s The Last Mile—a novel that redefined for me the power of dialogue to drive tension and reveal character. Another surprise? Song lyrics often find their way into my writing. Whether describing a scene or capturing a character’s emotion, music seems to echo in the background of my storytelling, sometimes surfacing without warning—part of the creative current I follow. This love of dialogue and lyrical flow infuses both the Geoffrey Wines Series of Political Thrillers and the whimsical How Mrs. God and I Created the Universe. MY INFLUENCERS Long before I wrote fiction, I was a frequent flyer with a book always in hand. Authors like Tom Clancy fascinated me with the way he wove complex threads into explosive conclusions. Michael Crichton disguised scientific and ethical debates inside pulse-pounding thrillers. And Ken Follett showed me how contrasting characters can sharpen one another and elevate the entire story. Biographies also shaped my lens. Walter Isaacson (Steve Jobs), Robert Caro (LBJ series), Jon Meacham (Thomas Jefferson), Doris Kearns Goodwin (Team of Rivals), and Joseph Ellis (American Creation) each gave me a deeper appreciation for human nature, leadership, and invention. You’ll find echoes of all these voices in my own storytelling—especially in how I develop characters and construct my plots. ABOUT ME Before becoming a writer, I spent my career in New Product Development for the food industry—creating innovative products, speaking at conferences, and earning two U.S. patents along the way. I even co-edited the industry book An Integrated Approach to New Food Product Development. The same deep research and creative energy I brought to that world now fuels my fiction. In both arenas, it’s all about building something new. I live in Missouri with my wife of 40+ years. We have two grown daughters and three energetic grandsons. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me on the tennis court, sipping bourbon, building furniture, biking the trails—or happily raking mountains of leaves each fall. I’m also proud to be part of a vibrant writing community through the Springfield Writers Guild.
