Anthony was born in Radlett, Hertfordshire and educated at Queen’s School Bushey. After a failed attempt to study film at Portsmouth Polytechnic, he joined the BBC, beginning as clerk in the reference library before becoming a sound engineer and then producer. His first book, ‘Crumpled Trumpet’ follows his career through the corporation, taking us through his experiences on national events like the Falklands War and the death of Diana Princess of Wales, to the inside stories of directing and working with countless presenters, singers, musicians and actors, including Hollywood star Dirk Bogarde, legendary actress Glenda Jackson, pop superstar Gary Barlow and chat show king, Sir Michael Parkinson. Having left the family home at eighteen, Anthony arrived in Broadcasting House convinced he would be producing at The London Palladium by the end of the week. It took a little longer than that! 'Crumpled Trumpet' relates a series of adventures, with humour and insight, into what it is like to make programmes at the BBC and to work with stars including Idina Menzel, Cameron Mackintosh, Brian Blessed, Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, Mark Gatiss, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gregory Porter, Kylie Minogue, Tom Jones, Gladys Knight, Priscilla Presley and Barry Manilow. It is a tribute to the art of radio - and the people who make it.
