Andrea Gabriel is an author and illustrator whose work spans contemporary fiction, children’s picturebooks, and speculative fiction. Her debut novel (let’s call it a session-tapes novel) Shepherd’s Derelict, explores family secrets against the backdrop of the Pacific Northwest. As both author and illustrator, she has created the award-winning children’s books My Favorite Bear (Charlesbridge) and Wandering Woolly (Arbordale), with her illustration work appearing in more than ten traditionally published titles from publishers including Albert Whitman & Co., Dawn Publications, and Sasquatch Books. An active member of the literary community for over two decades, Andrea participates in an ongoing private critique salon with other writers (she’d brag on them, but it’s private) and maintains memberships in The Authors’ Guild and Chippewa Valley Writers’ Guild. She was a longtime member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University (magna cum laude) and has pursued advanced writing studies through The Novelry and various workshop intensives. Currently based in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Andrea is working on The Confluence, a cozy romantasy/mystery, while continuing to develop fiction that emphasize collective solutions and community narratives over traditional hero’s journey structures. When not writing, she enjoys exploring Wisconsin with her wife, and occasional treks to coastal Wales. Sometimes she paints.
