Amy Gorman in her 60s searched for older women artists to serve as role models and to demonstrate that creative juices can still flow regardless of age. The first person she met was Lily Hearst, aged 105 and still playing the piano daily. Whew. Her book, Aging Artfully, emerged from the many interviews she conducted with 12 artists of all stripes: painters, dancers, storytellers, all over 85. The DVD, Still Kicking by Greg Young, features 6 of the 12 women in her book. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Gorman migrated to Berkeley, California in 1959 where she completed a master's in social work (MSW) and still lives with her husband. She loves the dynamic progressive culture of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the people who live there. After almost 20 years of running Kidshows, the non-profit Gorman created, introducing professional performances to children in theaters around the Bay Area - live theater, music and dance - she started sculpting, got interested in the field of aging, and began meeting a fascinating array of older people.
