He became enamored with the sea, sailing ships, and books upon his first reading of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island as a boy. For the past twenty years, after retiring as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, he has made Virginia his home, where he continues to sail and write to his heart's content.
