Allan Finlay was born and bred in Yorkshire and now lives in Derbyshire with his wife and two sons. As a boy, he would accompany his father to work whenever he could and sit and listen to the old characters coming in and out of his father's scrap yard. Stories from gypsies, vagabonds, tea-leafs and other dealers had everyone bent double with laughter. As Allan continued to visit the family business from a Saturday job in the yard to eventually taking over the business; it was clear the old characters had slowly started to disappear. Perhaps the real hardship of the post war era wasn't there to breed them anymore? Then after time, just the odd one would call in to reminisce. Now just about all of them have gone to try and weigh in the Pearly Gates. Allan thought it was important to share some of the old times and keep the memories alive in honor of these types of characters; hence the birth of his first novel 'Raggy Arsed Lads'.
