Alexander Dukalskis is an Associate Professor in the School of Politics & International Relations at University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. He earned is Ph.D. from University of Notre Dame, master's degrees from Notre Dame and the London School of Economics (LSE), and his undergraduate degree from Willamette University. His research and teaching interests include authoritarianism, Asian politics, and human rights. His academic work has been published in several leading journals, including Government & Opposition, Review of International Studies, Journal of Democracy, Journal of Peace Research, and Democratization. His first book, The Authoritarian Public Sphere: Legitimation and Autocratic Power in North Korea, Burma, and China, was published in 2017, while his second book, Making the World Safe for Dictatorship, was published by Oxford University Press in 2021. His expertise has appeared in several leading media outlets, including the Los Angeles Times, Irish Times, South China Morning Post, Washington Post, Haaretz, Time, Newsweek, RTE, and Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
