Alex Wright is the author of Empire of Ink: The Printers, Rogues, and Radicals Who Invented the American Newspaper, a history of the rise of American news culture. He is also the author of Cataloging the World: Paul Otlet and the Birth of the Information Age and Glut: Mastering Information Through the Ages (reissued in 2022 as Informatica). A writer, designer, and historian of information systems, Wright has written widely about technology, media, and culture for publications including The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Believer, Harvard Magazine, Salon, and The Christian Science Monitor. He has held leadership roles in product design at Google, Instagram, and The New York Times. Wright holds a PhD in Design from Carnegie Mellon University and lives in Brooklyn with his wife, two boys, and three banjos.
