British Ghanaian Abena Eyeson writes positive stories with a black child at the heart of each one. She has won accolades for the FAB Prize, Jericho Prize and TLC Pen Factor. Running my Own Race, published in the UK by Nosy Crow, is her debut middle grade novel. The book has been longlisted and shortlisted for a number of UK book awards including being shortlisted for the Peters Children's Book of the Year 2026. It has been included in the round-up of best children's books of 2025 in the UK for Amazon, Waterstones and LoveReading4Kids. Abena wrote Our Family Family, an educational narrative non-fiction book, for Oxford University Press. Looking Up, a novel for teens, was self-published in 2019.
