About this listen

I never claimed to be a good girl, but I definitely never asked for this.

Killian, Tristian, and Rath.

These three men are a part of my past - one that I'd rather never look in the eye again. In high school, they knew my secrets and I knew theirs. They had power and I had nothing. The night everything fell apart, my stepbrother allowed his two best friends to take their rage out on me while he watched. While they laughed.

But what happened that night wasn’t my biggest secret. So I ran, planning on never coming back.

Three years later I’m standing on their doorstep like a stray. They’re more powerful than ever now, having risen to the rank of Lords at Forsyth University. But I’m still on the run and there's another monster chasing me down.

What could bring me back into their lives, their homes, and ultimately, their beds?

Fear.

Shame.

Desperation.

Killian, Rath, and Tristian aren’t the only ones who want me. There’s someone far more dangerous out there who's been stalking me since I left town the first time. Someone who makes the evil I know feel less dangerous than the evil I don’t.

But being their Lady is more than just fancy clothes and reputation.

I might be under their protection, but I’m also at their mercy.

And there's nothing a Lord loves more than taking control.

Warning: This book is a Dark/Bully romance. It contains graphic content of abuse and assault that some listeners may be particularly sensitive to. If you have triggers or are even remotely unsure, please heed the note at the beginning of this book.

The boys are off the chain, Story needs to stop blaming and punishing Killian for everything. She give passes to Rath and Tristan but freezes Killian out even thought the other 2 treat her worse by using facid of sweetness and kindness .I think Killian should find love with someone else and leave Story with Rath and Tristan, it will bring him peace and she will be free of that connection to anger and hate when it comes to Killer. He told her he loved her and she treated his words as poison, yet loves the sweet lies told to her by Rath and Tristan. I have my suspicion of who Ted is can't wait for book 3. Wish I could shake her and Story you are the girl in the tattoo killer loves youuuu and he has never lied and manipulated you for sexual favours even though he knew it was a game.

THE SERIES: (spoiler free): This series certainly has its flaws but oh is it addictive. It scratches some of my book itches in a way few others do. I tend to be wary of College romances since they can be a bit cringy and over the top, and honestly, Lords of Pain is no exception, but those moments tend to get less frequent as the series goes on and I'm willing to overlook it because of how good everything else is.

I don't want to spend too long dwelling on the moral question of darker elements, the guys do stuff that would absolutely never be acceptable IRL and you're either okay with enjoying this stuff in a fantasy setting or you're not. The authors do a great job building a world where you understand why the men do what they do (not excusing it just explaining it) and making them grow past it.

I love Reverse Harems but it can be hard to find ones that are actually done well. It's always difficult to develop that many characters and relationships well but I think Angel and Samantha nail it. It's probably the strongest element in the series. The smut in book one is pretty good but it gets better with each book.

I love that this series is brave enough to dive into some more taboo/niche kinks. (something that's a little absent from the Dukes books but appears to have returned in full force in the Princes)

THE PERFORMANCES: Personally the performances weren't my favourite. It's not that the performances are bad and it was nothing that really put me off enjoying the book the actor's voices just aren't my favourite, and the male actors' delivery honestly sounded a bit forced at times, especially with certain characters. Duet narration would've helped a bit so as to not have the actors have to do the awkward 'opposite gender voice' thing but that wasn't my only issue.
Still overall enjoyable audiobooks just not ideal for me.

This story takes the bully trope to the next level.

Three years ago, Story experienced how little say she had when it came to Killian, Tristian, and Rath. After having nowhere to turn, she gives herself to this trio, to do with as they want, for 12 months. She might think she knows what she's getting herself into, but experiencing it is altogether different

A true dark book to check TW/CW.

Book 1 in the trilogy sets up the Lords' world and Story's place in it. It's difficult not to really dislike the trio so far.

I read on Kindle and read along on Audible with good audio.

Bully trope done well

It was a captivating story but I was annoyed that it ended on a cliffhanger!! I can’t endure another book with these narrators… they have talent, but it just wasn’t for me.

Captivating
