Story
With her ex soon to be married, her mum back on the dating scene, and her best friend threatening to settle down with the Most Boring Man Alive, Stevie is feeling left behind. To top it off, her old uni mate Johnno West, whom she hasn't seen for years, keeps turning up as best man at Stevie's jobs. And he is looking so good. Perhaps their youthful pact—that if they were both still single in their early thirties they'd get together—is not so crazy after all? Then the enigmatic Charlie Jones walks into the frame.

Story
The film Rabbit-Proof Fence is based on this true account of Doris Pilkington's mother, Molly, who as a young girl led her two sisters on an extraordinary 1,600 kilometre walk home. Under Western Australia's invidious removal policy of the 1930s, the girls were taken from their Aboriginal families at Jigalong on the edge of the Little Sandy Desert, and transported halfway across the state to the Native Settlement at Moore River, north of Perth. Here Aboriginal children were instructed in the ways of white society and forbidden to speak their native tongue.

A nice story 😐
Fine if you are looking for a nice, Oprah-book club type of story. Fairly formulaic, some parts feel like they were informed by people who had actually spent time in Afganistan, other parts too embroidered, even for pre-Taliban Afganistan. The narrator is very good.

Wonderful story
A great insight into life of men and women under the Taliban, woven into a delightful story. My only tiny comment on the recording is that it could have been a fraction slower.

Enlightening
While the overall story was mostly a feel-good read, it certainly opens western eyes to the naked truth of how women are truly perceived in Taliban territory.
This could be read just for the education it provides.
