Story
When 23-year-old shepherdess Emma Gray breaks off her engagement, the chance to take over an isolated Northumberland farm seems just the fresh start she needs. But while the beautiful scenery certainly offers plenty of scope for contemplation, a night out with an eligible bachelor soon seems more remote than the farm itself. And once you add fugitive sheep and freak blizzards into the mix, Emma's dreams of a happy future at Fallowlees Farm quickly begin to fade.

Story
Welcome to Jeremy's farm. It's an idyllic spot, offering picturesque views across the Cotswolds, bustling hedgerows, woodlands and natural springs. Jeremy always liked the idea being a farmer. But, while he was barrelling around the world having more fun with cars than was entirely reasonable, it seemed obvious that the actual, you know, farming was much better left to someone else. Then one day he decided he would do the farming himself. After all, how hard could it be?

But she was quite unprepared for the bustle of the modern town which greeted her, for the shadowy rumors and mystery surrounding the old house....

So far, her life had been somewhat dull and circumscribed; but quite suddenly her horizons were enlarged. She began to make new friends.

Publisher's Summary
As seen on BBC 2's hit TV show This Farming Life.
Emma Gray was just 23 when she moved to an isolated farm in Northumberland, becoming Britain's youngest solo shepherdess. In the seasons that followed, Emma fell in love with its rolling fields, sycamore trees and sturdy farmhouse, where she tended her sheep and trained her dogs - and even found romance along the way.
But when Emma finds herself suddenly alone again, heartbroken, mourning the loss of loved ones and recovering from a serious accident, she can't help but wonder if her isolated existence is still such a sensible idea. Even if she could recover, how could she make a proper living on Fallowlees Farm?
In her heart-warming new book, Emma reveals how she picks herself up from these setbacks to become one of the country's most successful trainers of Border Collies and how she - much to her surprise - finds true love and lasting happiness where she least expects it.
Written with warmth and humour, My Farming Life is testament to the healing power of nature and a joy for anyone who's ever dreamed of living closer to it.

My favourite book on Audible so far..!
I listened to Emma’s first book and absolutely loved it. Her second book is just as good as the first. Pure love for farming and her working dogs, there’s nothing not to love about this book. I felt her emotions through the tough times and her successes and that’s powerful for a book to be able to do that. The chapter about Bill had me in tears while I was listening to this whilst putting up a sheep fence at home with my own working dogs around me. Emma has achieved some incredible things in farming and I came away very inspired. Definitely recommend both books if you’re interested in farming and even if you’re not. It will open your eyes to how tough the farming industry can be but also the deep care, compassion and commitment farmers have for their land, livestock and working dogs. If you put in the hard work and dedication, you’ll get the reward eventually and that is essentially what Emma and Ewan have done. What an amazing life they’ve created - Hats off to them! Very well written! I hope a third book is written in the future!
