Publisher's Summary

DCI Kenny Murrain sees, hears and feels things that others do not. It’s a gift but also a curse.

When he wakes to the phantom sound of screaming, he knows a murder has been committed, but not where or why. Then a woman’s body is found in a Stockport hotel room. It’s a murder that seems both frenzied and carefully planned, the scene expertly cleansed of any evidence.

Over the following days, more bodies are discovered. The same frenzied attacks, the same meticulous planning. The same killer. The victims all have links to one man, a police colleague with a dark past. But Murrain discovers a more unexpected connection - with Marie Donovan, a former undercover officer now part of Murrain’s own team.

Crime Thriller with more than a Hunch

A good mix of strong likable main characters all with their own unique backgrounds working a new case while making way for a new colleague.
It kept me guessing right till the end especially as the murder scenes were very different from what I’ve come across before.
Greg Wagland has done a great job with narrating it.

Twisted Tales

Narrated wonderfully!
Gripping thriller. Once you start you have to keep going. The kids almost missed out on dinner I was so excited to finish. Highly recommended!

Entertaining yet standard format

Likable characters, enough drama and twists to keep you engaged but very genre typical.

A Classic Story from a Classic Author.

This was like watching a favorite Movie re run. A classic well presented. Much more detailed than the film. Characters and scenes are wonderfully explained in word. I really liked reliving this story.

Not bad

This book was pretty good and although I knew where it was taking me I have to admit I got the wrong person. This doesn’t happen very often so when it does it’s fantastic.
However, there was a fair bit of repetition; one character stating something and then either repeating it further along or another character stating it as though it was their opinion which irritated me slightly.
The narration was another irritation for me. His voice was ok, which is important, but he would narrate a character’s words and carry straight on with the next sentence as though it was the same character but it wasn’t. I found this confusing at times as it obviously didn’t make sense.
One final irritation for me was that the narrator had a sarcastic tone which again took away from the overall tone of the book as it didn’t fit with the storyline.
I’ve experienced similar with other narrators and I think it could be prevented if they either read the book first, which I admit may not always be doable or they were given a plot and character guide so they know how it will develop.

not too bad

Not the best. But not boring. One of the better included titles.
Narrator calling Brennan "Brendan" every now and then was slightly annoying.
Putting up with the insubordination and smart chat from one witness but then not from another was also jarring. I mean, being blatantly rude to what was at that point just a witness, and a fellow law enforcement agent, was going a bit far.

Mildly entertaining

A well written narrative with strong characters
Good story line with nice little twist

I’m not sure if it’s narration or editing but sometimes I missed the switch between characters and got a bit lost in who was speaking.
Narration being a little monotone didn’t help. This all meant I had to concentrate a little harder than usual
Enjoyable now the less. Glad it wasn’t any longer tho

Kept me listening

Good, interesting story lines. I got a little confused by the different female characters at times. All in all it was captivating & enjoyable (in that crime & murder kind of way!)!
