the book is excellent - both content and narration. however i felt that the meditations were sometimes too wordy which was distracting - too much explanation and not enough quiet time to try what was being suggested. the chapters in the audio version do not correlate to what is being described, so it was hard to find the meditations initially - they should be clearly marked.
but overall i found this really useful and even though i haven't done the full recommended program (which is very time consuming) i have still noticed a difference in my thinking and reactivity from the few meditations I've done.
Williams and Zinn both have lovely voices, so listening was very pleasant. I was already familiar with meditation, so I took to it easily. I would recommend this program to anyone. all you need is some patience and a few minutes a day. The print version has a CD so the tracks are referred to by number that doesn't correspond to the chapter numbers. you can figure it out pretty easy but it is something to figure out.
"Thankful to have found this audible"
The authors are sharing their years of experience in a ways that are helpful, digestible, and useful. I have listened to segments of this audiobook everyday for nearly three weeks, as is suggested by the authors, and I plan to continue to listen for at least another three weeks. This book has brought about so much good that I am thankful to have stumbled upon it. If you are interested in this topic and/or suffer from depression I believe you should take a chance and get it. I'm glad I did.
"Great Content - Meditations are at the End"
I really enjoyed this book and found the content very helpful.
MEDITATIONS ARE THE LAST FEW CHAPTERS
Not necessarily but I almost did.
The meditations that other commentators complain are not included are actually the last 6 or so chapters of the audio book. Those who complain about the lack of meditations either purchased a different version or didn't bother to listen to the whole book.
this book is a very good resource for learning how to get out of depression mindfully. i highly reccommend it to anyone trying to learn the practice of surrenderring into the moment. the best i have listened to/read on the subject. very practical and truly gets into the details of "how to" not just the comcepts. probably a book one would listen to multiple times even just for the meditations.
"This book is a life changer"
This is one of the books that has changed my life. It teaches the listener some very powerful skills to take control of one's current state. To help us realize that stress, anxiety, and depression are often allowing thoughts of past mistakes or future concerns to control the current, and thus rob us of the joy of living right now.
As this is a self help book, the closest books may be teaching company lectures.
I learned that the mindfulness exercises are true exercises. I learn from doing them. Like exercises, it takes time to become good at them
If the listener struggles with being controlled by their emotions, this may be a great solution. It certainly helped me.
"Good content but don't buy this version"
- DON'T BUY IT !
- Lacks any of the meditations.- Gives you a lot of theory behind each meditation, and then keeps telling you to go to the (separate) guided meditation sessions to actually do the meditations
- BUT - and this is the key point - THE MEDITATIONS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE BOOK.
- So - much as I love midnfullness and kabat-Zin - they messed up with this book.
- DON'T BUY IT !
Depression. Offered me a way out of my depression, but then cruelly withheld the ingredient that would help me.
- DON'T BUY IT !
Several lightbulb moments as to what was keeping me stuck. Narrator easy to listen to.
I have used Mindful Meditation CD's for about 6 months and found them very helpful. This book is the very best. It goes beyond just exercises and gives you ways to help depression. The body scan, if used daily is life changing!
"excellent help and insight"
helped me out a lot. feeling much better after all the depression episodes of despair. I thank the authors. they did great work on this. I recommend it for everyone regardless of how they feel. it just improves life itself!
"Huge help for sufferers of depression"
Highly recommend if you suffer from depression, but you must do the guided Meditations and activities. It takes time yes, but it really works!
"Well worth the time and money!"
This audio book has been incredibly helpful in facing depression. MBCT is science based and proven. Take the actual 8 week course if you can alongside listening to and reading the book.
