A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That's the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and has no desire to change his ways.
Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss. Until the day he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract-fiancée instead of PA.
What happens when two people who loathe each other have to live together and act as though they are madly in love? Sparks. That's what happens.
Can the power of love really change a person?
Will they survive the contract?
What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can't live without?

this story was fantastic i was sorry it ended would love to hear more stories like this when I can afford them. itried sending a copy to my husbands kindle so he could also enjoy the story. this is the first time that I have written a review. thanks again for a fantastic story. DI WHitstone.
Well...I really enjoyed the plot to the story,I fully expected your typical "assistant/boss"office hook up,but had a different twist than your usual romance. For starters...The assistant was not your"usual"gorgeous, lusty looking assistant, according to her boss(a major a$$ hole,in my opinion)she was a plain, sexless scare crow.He treated her like total $h!t for a good portion of the story and she put up with it because her situation called for her needing her job.In the "hero's"arrogance,he didn't get his promotion so he devised a plan to fix his image with the help of his straight, laced assistant. They worked it out and of course ended up falling in love.A little hard to believe but it happened none the less.If this had some"reality"to it,I'd see a divorce in their future.I think his guilt over how he treated her made him settle and his personality will certainly rear it's ugly head soon,it's not likely to change after all the years of being such a d!ck.
"Typical HEA love story"
I am always hesitant to write reviews for books that are what I consider "par for the course" romances. I just give my honest opinion of the read and I don't have blogs or web sites or anything of that nature. I am just me and I like to read and listen.
This story was interesting enough to finish. It was not a story I could not put down or kept me on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next. The publishers summary give a good synopsis of the book. What IS refreshing about the story line however, is the company that Richard goes to is an extremely close knit family oriented business. I think that was unique to the story. I also enjoyed how the people from said company helped the story along. The sub characters were interesting and I hope that she decides to publish their stories as well.
This is a story you can enjoy on a weekend, vacation or just to have something pleasant to listen to. If you have read my reviews before you know that I am a HUGE fan of Tatiana Sokolov. This story is atypical of what she usually narrates. She does a very good performance, but the male performer has more to read and his female voice took some getting used to.
I used a credit to purchase this because I was down on reading/listening material. I would recommend for a sale.
It's rare when I feel so emotional with a book these days, normally many romance novels are repetitive always about tragedy, but this book was real. And the author was able to express how one person can change and make a difference with unconditional love.
"Perfect story by great author"
I absolutely loved every minute of it. The narrators did an amazing job and the author wrote a perfect story, the kind I love to read and I enjoyed everything about it. The characters and their stories a perfect compliment to the settings and plot line. Would certainly be reading or listening for any story written by Melanie Moreland.
Story was predictable, repetitive and corny. I was ready for it to end almost immediately. Huge disappointment.
"A joy to listen to..."
What a delicious story, well written and better yet read by these two great narrators!!!
So worth the time and credit. She seems so weak and lost at the beginning but she surprises us and teaches him how to be a better version of himself... super cool and sweet.
"I love Melanie Moreland!"
I have read two of Ms. Moreland's books. She knows how to write in an order of scenarios that keep the reader engaged and wanting more.
"The Contract" encompasses many emotions-dislike, angst, tolerance, pain at the loss of a loved one, acceptance, love.
I'm a hard-sell when it comes to this genre of writing, but I think this author will earn adoration and praise for every book that she writes. Obviously, she has earned mine.
"Very good storyline, well written dialogue!"
It was not quite what I expected. There are many romance type novels written with angst, lust, in-your-head anguish... but this one got rolling fast and kept the pace very evenly. I liked the repartee between the two main characters and the dialogue was very believable. The BAD (good) guy with hidden heart of gold isn't any new twist, but the story line was different and clever enough to keep me wanting to listen every time I got into the car... and towards the end, even at home as I went to sleep!
I found myself really liking these two characters for each other as I did in Bared to You, a Sylvia Day novel. Katie's not as kick-ass as Eva was, but both were damaged and held their own with strong, badly behaved men. And, both have a wicked, sarcastic sense of humor.
Without having to say Spoiler Alert, yes. When a very sad part happened, I felt teary eyed.
I have downloaded all of this author's other books, and pre-ordered her new one!
Seldom do I write reviews, but had to share this one. Great story line. Loved all the characters. Author did a great job on this book and will read more of her books.
The narrators did a fabulous job!!!!
"ok storyline. no chemistry. bad narration."
ok storyline but there was no chemistry between characters and just not great writing it was very stilted and not natural how people would speak to each other etc. not a fan of the narration.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the narrators played their part perfectly and made The story totally believable. The characters are great and the story is charming funny sexy and a little sad in places. I will certainly listen to this again.
"well developed characters"
I liked the genuine distain they had for each other.
Really well narrated and paced. I really felt like I was taken on a journey - I could definitely listen to this again. Excellent.
I will look for more from this authoress.
fantastic book. really loved the storyline and the character voices were believable and really get you engrossed into the story. I cried laughed and felt passion all in one book. will definitely be listening to it again.
I love this book I laughed I cried a love the characters the storey lines it's just so beautiful
"Loved the book, but loved the audio more!"
I bought the book when it was first released as it was by one of my go-to authors (I've been a big fan of Melanie's for years) and wasn't disappointed.
So when I found out the audio version had been released I just HAD to get it and I loved it more than the book, John Lane & Tatiana Sokolov did a great job of bringing the book to life and I was emotionally invested (again) from the very start.
This is definitely an audiobook that I will listen to many more times.
