Just round the corner from St Jarlath's Crescent (featured in Minding Frankie) is Chestnut Street. Here, the lives of the residents are revealed in Maeve Binchy's wonderfully compelling tales: Bucket Maguire, the window cleaner, who must do more than he bargained for to protect his son. Nessa Byrne, who's aunt comes to visit from America for six weeks every summer and turns the house - and Nessa's world - upside down.
Lilian, the generous girl with a big heart, and the fiancé not everyone approves of. And Melly, whose gossip about the neighbours leads to trouble in the form of a fortune teller, 'Madame Magic'...
No one rivals Maeve Binchy for stories of warmth, kindness, love, loss - and life not always turning out as expected.

Much of my MP3 listening is done when I have insomnia. The almost short story format was thus excellent. Some characters were interwoven throughout different chapters but a clear memory of every personality was not essential to the overall enjoyment of each story.
The dilemmas and challenges and minutiae of daily life were always satisfactorily resolved. This is in contrast to her earlier Victoria Line, Central line where the protagonists seemed to rarely wise up.
"Insightful stories with loveable characters."
It takes time to get used to rhythm of short story format but it is worth it. A great collection.
"Maeve at her best"
I absolutely loved this audio book. The characters as usual all believable and the narrator was wonderful. Such an insight into Irish life and people. Well recommended
True to life.
As always Kate's lovely voice makes listening a pleasure
Yes, definitely did not want it to end

"Good read even though it's short stories"
I'm not a fan of short stories but still thoroughly enjoyed this collection from the master story teller herself!
"Pleasant collection of short stories"
This is a collection of short stories about the residents of a street. Nice easy listening to do housework to.
I persevered with this book. ..but wished I hadn't. ..maybe it's just not my cup of tea.
did not like the narrator. could not get used to her voice.
Charming, up-lifting and witty stories wonderfully narrated. Just perfect to listen to when you only have a little bit of time.
