Publisher's Summary
Most humans have no idea that a dark and deadly underworld, filled with magic and monsters, exists. They wander through life blissfully ignorant of the supernatural world around them. Nora Jacobs is different. Nora knows exactly what kinds of hellish creatures haunt the streets of Detroit.
Thanks to a unique set of psychic abilities, Nora has managed to steer clear of the underworld most of her life. But all that changes the night the most powerful vampire in the city discovers her gifts and decides to use her as a tool to find one of his missing clan members.
As if that's not bad enough, Nora believes she's cursed. All her life, people, especially men, have been drawn to her - some to the point of obsession and violence. Underworlders, it seems, are not immune to this curse, and now she's caught the attention of some of the most dangerous monsters in the city. Neck deep in an investigation only she can solve, Nora quickly makes as many new allies as she does enemies. Her biggest problem is staying alive long enough to decide which is which.

ahh I love this
Such a great little audio book. Story line is a little cheesy but it was enjoyable. I liked the slight spin off on the supernatural world. Nora is a great main character and I really would love nothing more than a huge series by this author!

The characters drew me in from the start!
The overview didn’t particularly draw me in but after reading the reviews I gave it a go and was hooked! The characters are all so unique and loved the sass of Nora.

Better than expected
I expected a run of the mill book.
And ended up with something a little deeper.
It came close to falling into some nasty tropes, but didn't.
If fell into other tropes, but not the ... rapey ones.
And the narrarator sounds like she is falling asleep.

interesting start to a series
The story and world building were interesting and enjoyable dispite things being a little predictable.
The charecters felt reasonably rounded. MC is clearly going to end in a why choose situation and the prospective love interests stand out.
The narrator was a little jarring to start with and the different voices are sometime hard to pick. But as the story went on they got to really show their versatility with the female charecters.

Fantastic start!
Fantastic start to the series! Very slow burn but lots of intrigue and I'm curious to see where the story takes me. I'm not 100% loving the narrator. I feel like her voice doesn't quite match Nora or the situations but I'll be listening to the next two books on audible as well.

Really enjoyed this
Jackie May is a new-to-me author and I am very happy to have discovered them. I liked this story - the world, the dynamics developing between the characters and the magics. I have listened to the narrator before and very much enjoy her performance. I will be listening to the rest of this series.

Great read
Surprisingly, there is no proper romance in this book but it is still an amazing read. This book is about a human girl who has the ability to read minds and past experiences with touch. In a world where the supernatural exist, she is not viewed as one. Nora (the female protagonist) also possesses what she views as a curse, causing people around her to be attracted to her for as long as she could remember. Going into foster care at a young age, Nora didn't have the best life, causing her to view men as revolting and causing her to never experience pleasure with touch. When she is thrown into the supernatural world though and used because of her curse to find missing underworlders, Nora finds that not everyone is out to get her and there are people in the world who are worthy of her trust. The ending to this book does leave questions for the reader, however it does not end like some books do where the cliffhanger is so extreme that you feel like you have to read the next book. I listened to this as an audiobook and loved both the narration in it, and the story as a whole. If you think you will like this book, definitely give it a go and see if you will like it as much as I do.
