Publisher's Summary

What would happen if the noisiest, most talkative class of 5th graders in history dared each other not to talk for 48 hours? This is the premise Andrew Clements explores in one of his most compelling stories yet.

What the Critics Say

"Despite the rivalry that started the contest, the longstanding animosity between the boys and girls dissipates as the students bond over the experiment. Presuming the novel doesn't generate similar contests in real life, readers may be compelled to use their voices to praise Clement's deft handling of an interesting premise." (Publishers Weekly)

    "Delightful children's book, ages 8 to 12."

I purchased and listened to No Talking in 2009, but failed to rate or review it. I just finished listening to it again and it is wonderful. The subject of the book is 5th grade boys and girls having a two day contest to not talk at all except for a 3 word limit in response to teachers. It's girls against boys. It is an uplifting and endearing little story that is well worth the cost in money and time.

    "Loved it!"

Andrew Clements has done it again. We listened to this on car rides and I probably enjoyed it as much as the kids.

    "Clements did it again!"

I bought one copy of the book for my bookshelf and had 124 Fifth graders fighting to check it out, so I decided to buy the Audible version and we listened to it while we did our work (and yes, they still were fighting to check out the book to my surprise!)

And of course, Clements story is wonderful.

This ended up being one of my best teaching tips for keeping a large class of rowdy kids quiet for a good length of time :-)

    "Utterly Delightful!"

The family listened to this on a long drive. It was a wonderful story, well written, well narrated, and a total delight. Even the skeptical teens couldn't wait to turn it back on after stops.

This is a top choice in children's fiction.

    "another amazing title "

Clements - as always - breaks the Children's fiction mold today that puts adults in the backseat and lets kids rule the world. In this book, the kids remain the center of the text while adults are portrayed as real people - smart, flawed, and good. Refreshing!

    "Worth listening"

I found this book through battle of the books and I had read it before I listened to it... I thought the storyline was pretty good, but the narrator could have done better with emphasis and voices. It's worth listening to but not the best audiobook ever.

    "This book was amazing"

I liked this book because at the end they were not arguing and I loved how they told a story about fifth grade and how hard it was to not talk at all. I would recommend this book to my friends and neighbors because it can image what is going In the book as you read the book. I had no idea that this book was so good that i loved it so much and it was really good book and i really enjoyed it❤️❤️❤️❤️

    "Great!"

I bought this for a road trip -- my husband, my 12-yo son, my 9-yo daughter and I loved it. We listened to Frindle last year, and this story was just as good. We laughed and were completely pulled into the story. It made the miles fly by!
