Publisher's Summary

Lindon has a year left.

When his time runs out, he’ll have to fight an opponent that no one believes he can beat. Unless he learns sacred arts the right way, from scratch, he won’t have a chance to win...and even then, the odds are against him.

In the course of their training, he and Yerin travel to the Blackflame Empire, where they fight to master an ancient power left behind by a fallen clan. This is Lindon’s chance to learn a true Path, but there are those who do not wish to see these lost techniques revived.

Success means a chance at life, but failure means death.

In the sacred arts, those who risk the most travel the farthest.

A very thrilling sequel.

Book 3 of the series is just as good as the first. There is no lack of momentum, only a rich sequence of interesting storytelling. And props to the ever reliable Travis Baldree to keep the words as attractive as they are intended.

Less Trickery, more new powers

If you haven't worked it out yet the name of the book is a pretty big hint for what it will be about. The story really starts to get interesting here, as we learn more about the world and also what Lindon can do (and potentially become). More great side characters are introduced as well.

We start to see a little less 'thinking outside the square' with Lindon, and a little more straight up 'I need more power.' Still, it's a good read. If you liked the last 2 books, you'll like this as well.
