Publisher's Summary

Simon can only watch, helpless, as his family is killed and his friends captured by enemy Travelers—men and women who can summon mystical powers from otherworldly Territories. To top it off, another young man from Simon's village discovers that he's a savior prophesied to destroy evil and save the realm.

Prophecy has nothing to say about Simon. He has no special powers, no magical weapons, and no guarantee that he'll survive. But he sets off anyway, alone, to gain the power he needs to oppose the Travelers and topple their ruthless Overlord. It may not be his destiny, but Simon's determined to rescue his fellow villagers from certain death.

Because who cares about prophecy, really?

Enjoyable high fantasy

Interesting concept, good story and I liked that it followed the story of the secondary character. The high fantasy elements worked well and the consequences of powers worked well in the story.

excellent series

At first, I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. I enjoy more world building type books. By the end of the 3 book series, I loved it. It's a shame that there isn't more to read as I would love to know more about the world and each territory. I definitely think another trilogy would be possible and well deserved as there is still so much more that could be showcased.

Fun, different

Great fantasy read swords and magic. Bit of coming of age but doesn't over do it.

it's ok

story is ok, it's enough to want to go to the ext boom.. but every sentence ends with a sound like the narrator needs to clear his throat, he's just got a really phlegmy sound yknow

amazing

the best audio book I have listened to for free on this app. I would happily pay for it. I have now listened to all 3 books and I am just so impressed it's not funny. give it a go you won't regret it

Wasn’t expecting it but kept me entertained

This book kept me entertained for the entire book am looking forward to the next two which I’ll be getting through in the next week or so.

Interesting story line so far - plot is not complex (which for me is good as it make it easier to follow) looking forward to seeing where the story goes and to see the characters develop

Excellent potential wasted

Half the book is Simon “drawing on nigh essence” Too much action, not enough story development, might make for a better movie than a book with all that fighting

The premise is awesome although it has been done better in the Malazan series.

A decent story and compelling

Compelling enough to pick up the second title in the series.
Good narration is helping the story along...
