If I'm going to tell the story of a life, my life, then I need to tell it warts and all. If the tale is too saccharine sweet then what can the reader take away from it? What do they learn about you? I've written everything down. The shit, the death, fun, naughtiness, addiction, laughter, laughter, laughter, some tears and lots of love and happiness. That ,to me, is a better reflection of a human's life.
Nick's family life was difficult, blighted by alcoholism, illness and sudden misfortune, meaning they lost everything overnight. He left school early and drifted from job to job, dogged by his own personal demons. It's something of a miracle that Nick survived and even more that he would achieve such success with his writing, acting and comedy.
In Truths, Half Truths and Little White Lies, Nick paints a brilliantly funny, moving and brutally candid portrait of childhood, adolescence and eventual success.

I didn't realise this book existed, but I'm glad I found it. Nick Frost is a great writer and narrator, I polished this audiobook off in two days so excited was I too hear more and more of his story.
From Essex, to Israel, to London to showbiz via much fun and heartbreak, much man-love for his Simon Peggy, drink and mind altering substances. Really well spoken and written, interesting even if you know little about him.
"Beautiful and insightful"
As a fan of Nick Frost and the work he's done it's great to get an insight into who he is as a person. It's not often you get to listen to someone talk about their lives and their experiences. Hearing him read the story you get the sense that he's not reading from a book but in fact hanging out with you recounting his life informally.
"A very interesting read!"
I admit, I could have kept on and on listening to you Nick, your very funny and quick. I love your humor. Thank you for sharing your life.
It took some doing figuring out some of the dialect, but... I am a huge fan of yours and have seen many of your films and shows ha, I think I did pretty well😀. I can't wait till your next book.
"Wowed and Delighted"
This was a FANTASTIC book and I loved every single second of it! It kept me laughing, and teetered on emotions as you follow the story from cover to cover...By the ending you'll have such a close feeling relationship with the author/narrator that the ending will bring a tear to your eye. I can't wait for the next one!!
"He's a storyteller all right"
He also performs it so well. He is very confident that his story is worth telling despite working class setting and unfinished schooling. He tells of periods of depression but his story always moves forward toward the better life he carved out for himself.
I was always wanting to see if I could spot the half truths. I think I found one. It's the story of him and Simon Pegg in the haunted estate and Emma the ghost. Nicely written and scary. I guess I hoped it didn't happen because it was that scary.
When he speaks to the audience like it was an aside. As a former standup, he can set up the situations like a great performer.
The death of his mother.
I totally enjoy the British sense of humor.
"Down to Earth"
Can't wait till book 2. Excellent story telling, the kind of stories you'd expect an interesting stranger to tell you in a bar.
"One of the best autobiographies I have ever read"
Nick Frost gave an honest and inspiring summary of his life, it inspired me to learn about his family, his beginnings and his life struggles. I especially like the reasoning he gave to write this book, to give his kids the chance about their father's adventures, struggles and emotions.
"Nick Frost shares the ups and downs of his life, with some silly stories along the way."
I enjoyed listening to Nick Frost talk about his life and the obstacles that he faced growing up. What I found annoying was his silly beliefs in karma and the supernatural. It's odd how some atheists out there are rational enough to stop believing in a deity, but still believe in other nonsense. Despite the hyperboles and made-up ghost stories, it's still a fun listen. I hope some day in the future he'll write a part two of his memoir that dives deeper into his career as an actor.
I wish there was more about his experience with working on Shawn of the Dead and all the other movies he acted in.
Nick Frost has written a wonderful biography it is both relatable and adventurous. I look forward to reading it again and again. It's like sitting down having a cup tea and getting to know someone.
"Enlightening, Entertaining and Moving"
Very entertaining and interesting look at Nick's life, very much bolstered by narration from the man himself.
In turns surprising, funny, a little shocking and very moving, if you enjoy Nick's work or not, it's a book worth experiencing.
Peters out ever so slightly towards the end, where it fades out to bridge to a follow up volume.
Well worth the cost and effort!
"Unique Frost humour & gut-wrenchingly sad"
Hilarious and also very sad. Frost's voice makes the book come alive. Would definitely recommend.
"An insight into a naturally funny man"
When you watch Nick Frost on TV or in a film, its easy to think his easy-go-lucky persona is just that, and his life has always been full of laughter and cheer.
This audiobook (narrated by himself) proves that behind most clowns is a sadness. He doesn't play up to this though, and you get the feeling that him writing this was as much therapy as it is entertaining to us.
Nick Frost is a good man, a man who was caught on the culture of the 90's after suffering immense heartache and crippling insecurities that left him with only really one goal most working class men face - survive. Live each day as it comes and keep hoping something better will come along.
It did - and we are all grateful for that.
"Funny and touching"
Being a fan of Spaced and Shaun of the dead, a clubber and having suffered similar personal loss, I really connected with Nicks experiences and humour. I was waiting for the dull non-funny stuff in the middle that other reviews mentioned, but never noticed it. Walking to work listening to this, laughing like a drain, I must have looked like a complete nutter. Totally worth it though.
loved it, loved it, lived it, loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it. it is such a good audio book
"Made it to the end"
Not bad but not all that gripping. Maybe a bigger fan would find it better. I made it to the end and was never bored but also didn't 'putting it down' between listening sessions.
I loved this book, very emotional and funny, it really lets you look into Nicks strengths and his weaknesses, he tells it well and you just love him. Thanks Nick.
Always kind of liked Frost and didn't know what to expect. Turned out i loved the book and the reasoning of it, to basically let his lad know (or anyone else in the future that cares about him) what he got up to and who he was in general whilst growing up. Brutal honesty and well written/narated. I always like it when someone in his position doesn't take himself to serious in the public eye and doesn't turn into an pretentious prick. Down to earth, funny, and lots of stuff in there to relate to as a working class member of society. HOPE THIS ISN'T THE LAST, PLEASE WRITE MORE.
"Entertaining but not the whole story"
Nick Frost is a likeable chap who I have enjoyed watching in both TV and film roles, particularly Spaced and the Cornetto trilogy. He goes into detail on the events that have formed him, sometimes with touching honesty. However I feel an autobiography should cover a full life story (as up to date as possible) and Nick stops short of that, saving some time for a future book perhaps. So whilst an enjoyable listen I felt this slightly took the edge off the full experience, hence not quite getting five stars.
"So good I listened twice"
What a fantastically unexpected and rich life Nick Frost has lived. I wasn't even aware of what a kibbutz was until this audio book. Enjoyed this more that Simon Peggs autobiography but that's just personal taste. I have just finished listening to this for the second time and would listen to it again. When's the next addition due Nick?
