Publisher's Summary

From the international best-selling author of the DCI Ryan mysteries.

In a world gone mad, who can you trust?

Fresh from a high-profile case in the Paris fashion world, elite forensic psychologist and criminal profiler Dr Alexander Gregory receives a call from the New York State Homicide Squad. The wife of a notorious criminal has been admitted to a private psychiatric hospital and can no longer testify in his upcoming trial. Without her, their case will collapse, but amid reports that the staff are as unpredictable as their patients, who can the police trust?

In desperation, they turn to an outsider, and now Gregory must find the courage to step inside the fortified walls of Buchanan Hospital to uncover the truth. The question is, will he ever be the same again?

Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst the spectacular Catskill Forest.

Thriller

This was a fantastic thriller to listen to. Hard to put it down. Held my attention right through out. One of the best stories I have listened to.

Another entertaining story

Annette
Loved this story another LJ Ross masterpiece. But missed Hugh Dancys reading. Richard Armitage brought a coldness to the character rather than the vulnerability of Dancy’s performance. Still loved the story but Armitage at times is a little flat.

Intriguing story

loved it! So exciting and a novel storyline. Alex is a disarming psychologist. Definitely recommended.

my kind of book

really like this series. the first book is probably the first book that has genuinely surprised me in a very long time. I like the idea of a psychologist perspective in a crime thriller. it was a little predictable, a piece that was far fetched but I forgive this as I enjoy the character so much. I would recommend reading the series in order to ensure the connection with the main character. can't wait for the next in the series as hinted to at the end of this book

Seemed far too short and rushed

I wish I had been left in suspension for longer. Another great story nevertheless.

Another cracker of a book

Goodness, what a ride that was. Alex certainly gets himself into some scrapes. Glad too see he may find some love. Can't wait for the next one. Narration was so good, I could listen to the dulcet times of Richard Armitage all day, smooth as velvet. Swoon....

Best book I've read in a long time

This was my first Audio book I have listened to and it didn't disappoint. It kept me captivated and coming back for more. A great crime thriller that had me hooked. Richard Armitage as narrator does a stellar job of voicing so many different characters that I could easily visualise them all in my minds eye as if they were different people and not narrated by the same person. Loved it.

The best of the series so far

I loved this book, it had me gripped from the start. Richard Armitage is great although his Bill Douglas does sound an awful lot like Rory Wilkinson ;)
