PAUL BURNORE Paul Burnore grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and earned his BA and MA in English Literature from Indiana University. He taught poetry and literature at Indiana University, Srinakharinwirot University in Thailand, Jundi Shapur University in Iran, and Anatolia College in Greece. He published six books of poetry: Particles (1999), Currents (2000), Rooted in Verse (2003), Outside Gravity (2015), Love's Orbit (2016), and Time's Back Door (2022). After his university teaching, Burnore worked in the corporate, government and non-profit worlds, much of it overseas. He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand, IBM Asia Pacific Director for software developers in Indonesia, Peace Corps Country Director in Kazakhstan, U.S. AID Privatization Director in Russia, IBM Leadership Consultant in India, and Managing Director of All Hands Volunteers, a non-profit international disaster response organization which worked in Haiti, The Philippines, the U.S. and many other countries. The success of his Peace Corps startup in Kazakhstan in 1993 is the lead story in Smithsonian magazine, August 1994. In the U.S. Burnore was President of the Board of Trustees at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of St Petersburg, Florida. His hobbies include scuba diving, mountain climbing, flying and kayaking. His many years living in numerous countries overseas, along with his personal adventures, losses, loves, and spiritual naturalism, continue to shape his poetry. He lives with his golden doodle Teddy in Seminole, Florida.
