After a haphazard career working and travelling around the world, I first stumbled into writing as a way to fund a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies at the University of York. Twenty years, 60 romances and one Ph.D. later, I stepped out of my comfort zone and began writing 'time slip' novels that drew on my research into the streets of Elizabethan York. Time’s Echo, published by Pan Macmillan in 2012, was my first mainstream novel. Part historical novel, part ghost story, part psychological thriller and part romance, Time’s Echo was shortlisted for two major awards on either side of the Atlantic. The Memory of Midnight was published in 2013, and most recently The Edge of Dark was released in hardback in November 2014, with the paperback edition out in March 2015. I still live in York and continue to work on the local court records that formed the basis of my PhD research, juggling historical fact with historical fiction in my novels. I am also a freelance writer, editor and project editor. I'm fascinated by the relationship between the past and the present and have always enjoyed 'time slip' novels and how they explore the possibility that it might be possible to go back in time and see what it was "really like". As a trained historian, I know that could never be possible, but as a storyteller, I find the premise irresistible ... I am always delighted to make contact with readers and fellow history enthusiasts.
