Lynn M. Stone was born and raised in Meriden, Connecticut. A graduate of Francis T. Maloney High School, he continued his education at Aurora University (IL), earning his Bachelor's Degree before attending Northern Illinois University and completing his Master's Degree. While a senior in high school, when he decided to be "an outdoor writer and photographer," he covered prep sports for the city's daily newspaper, the Meriden (CT) Record. He continued sports and nature feature writing for the Aurora (IL)Beacon-News during college and for some time beyond, juggling part-time newspaper work with English teaching in the Aurora (West) Public Schools. Stone eventually parlayed a lifelong interest in nature study with writing non-fiction children's books, largely about natural history subjects, and illustrated largely by his own photographs. After retiring from teaching, Stone worked full-time as a writer and outdoor photographer, traveling to seven continents, multiple countries, and throughout the United States and Canada. He remained in Chicagoland until 2013, at which time he returned to his native Connecticut. Married to an elementary school teacher, he continues writing and outdoor photography from his "perch" in southern New England.
