Brent A. Strawn is D. Moody Smith Distinguished Professor of Old Testament and Professor of Law at Duke University. Prior to joining the faculty at Duke, he was William Ragsdale Cannon Distinguished Professor of Old Testament at the Candler School of Theology and Graduate Division of Religion of Emory University in Atlanta, where he taught for eighteen years and was also affiliated with the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies and the Center for Mind, Brain, and Culture. He remains a Senior Fellow in Emory's Center for the Study of Law and Religion. He specializes in ancient Near Eastern iconography, Israelite religion, legal traditions of the Old Testament, and Old Testament theology. He has appeared on CNN numerous times on topics ranging from the Bible in politics, Pope Francis, religious holidays, and gun violence.
