Publisher's Summary

Lisa Edwards, top London magazine editor, has been fantasizing about promotion to New York. Instead, she's asked to launch a new women's magazine in Dublin. She thinks nothing could be worse - until she meets her new staff. They're friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic - in other words, they wouldn't last two minutes in London!

As Lisa struggles to find her feet in this alien world of no back-stabbing or bitchiness, her neurotic assistant, Ashling, is also in trouble. She's just too nice for journalism, and it shows. Who better to help them both than their handsome-but-hassled boss, Jack Devine? Always allowing for the fact that his moodiness could give Heathcliff a run for his money, of course.

Fantastic characters great story

Excellent story with really interesting complex characters. Serious themes but loads of hilarious moments. At the risk of sounding prudish i found some of the sex scenes a bit over the top. But everything else was fine. Great reading by Juanita as usual.

Great story

As usual I love the humour and the characters that Marian brings to life. I just didn’t like the narrator I found the accents and tones harsh and not fitting the characters. This is first book of Marians that I haven’t believed the accents.

Dreadful Irish accents

How the narrator got the job to read this book is beyond me. I would’ve stopped listening the second I heard the shocking accents, but I’d paid for the book so had to persevere. The story was fine.

Overall a lovely book and story

The story was good it took a while to get use to the narrator Irish voices. Prefer the original authors voices best. Great story 4/5 stars.

Another great MK’sStory

I loved this story, the characters, the real life
struggles. I did find the narrator hard to warm to at first but she grew on me.

Fantastic characters - very relatable

Aisling will break your heart. She is the living embodiment of every young woman who has ever felt inadequate for no reason. Seeing Lisa’s attitude change over the course of the book was really gratifying - I knew she had it in her! It’s a funny book, for sure, but it is also very real. It addresses mental health issues in a way which captures the impact on self and others. Very cleverly done.

Mediocre

Not the worst Marian Keyes, not the best in terms of content. But the narrator was terrible. She was fine whilst speaking in the third person but she had all these annoying accents and voices for different characters which just made me dread the next time they said anything.

Weird Irish accents

Love this book but couldn’t get past the variety of over the top, weird Irish accents from the narrater.

Great story, needs a better narrator

I love this author and have read this book before. Given the story is set in Ireland I feel the narrator should actually be able to imitate an Irish accent or be Irish. It was very poor and uncomfortable to listen to. Unfortunately would not recommend by this narrator for an Irish book.
