Habité depuis l'enfance par une folle passion des langues, qui m'a conduit à devenir un linguiste professionnel, je suis également envahi, depuis longtemps, par un questionnement : d'où vient donc le besoin qu'ont les humains de croire en un dieu ?Pourquoi l'histoire des religions est-elle hérissée de tant de violences, alors que, suscitées par les interrogations et les angoisses humaines face à un monde encore largement inexpliqué.

When faith fails, everything fails! The foundation of Christianity is faith. And once it is destroyed, you can’t stand anymore. The scripture says if the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do? If faith is this important, it is foolishness not to give it adequate attention. Any investment made to build your faith is the wisest investment. With events happening around us and things we hear on the news every day, it is easy to give in to fear. In these teachings, I am not talking about faith as a religious slogan or theory but the violence of faith that always dominates.

Gil Bailie wrote Violence Unveiled in the mid-1990s after learning of René Girard’s mimetic theory of human cultural origins. The mimetic theory posits that human interspecies violence posed an existential threat to the continuation of any early human community until the evolution/discovery of a particular kind of directed social violence – scapegoating violence - which in times of social crisis brought peace and harmony to the community at the expense of what would later be understood as a sacred victim or god who becomes a focus of religious awe.

At the young age of three, while I was at school, my mother was murdered by her abusive new boyfriend.
