The Detective takes place from roughly March 2683 to March 2684. Where applicable, the chapters are named to map to the action in The All-Pro (book III in the Galactic Football League series). The story actually begins, however, on unknown dates during book II, The Starter.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson attempt to solve the mystery surrounding the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. In doing so, they meet survivors of the disaster, including the mastermind of a dangerous conspiracy. Hot on his heels is the woman who once outwitted Holmes: Irene Adler, the woman in the great detective's life. A fierce battle erupts once again between Holmes and Irene Adler.
